Hrs. Katharine Hafstad stated that MAGB is continuing its study
on Interinstitutional cooperation among public colleges and
un i versities. Hr. Douglas Smith, Specia l Assis tant to the
Governor, attended the meeting. The Governor and the LegiSlature
are of the opin ion that university auton~ should be preserved.
A coord inating body need not interfere with each institution'S
governing authority. He stated that MAGB shou ld take a leadership
role In providing a forum for review and discussion of critical
issues facing higher education as well as interinstitutional
coope ration.
