and ca rried that the following resolution granti ng Rolland Alterman,
Professor, Teacher Education and Professional Development, emeritus
rank effective January I, 1982, be adopted.
WHEREAS, Rolland Alterman has for the past twenty · one years
been an active and productive member of the Schoo l of
Educat ion; and
WHEREAS, He served 40 years in the field of education as
teacher, coach , principal, superintendent of a Lab School,
Head of a Secondary Education Department at Kansas State
University, and professor of education at Central Michigan
University, and as the assistant director of the Ford
Foundation Project on Teacher Education; and
WHEREAS, He has published a
Education, conducted seve r al
resea rch studies, was instrumental in obtaining a grant to
establish an N.D ,LA. Institute, and has presented several
workshops at loca l, state, and national meetings and
served as an N.C.A.T.E. evaluator; and
WHEREAS, He held memberships In professional organizations ,
including Epsilon PI Tau, Phi De lta Kappa , Michigan Education
Association, National Education Association, Michigan Associa·
tion of Higher Educat ion, AssocIation for Student Teaching;

Mrs . Katharine Hafstad, Chairman of MAGB, s tated that the association
wi ll be offering an award to two out standing s tudents and two outstanding
faculty members f rom each of the fou r-year se.hools in the
State. The presen tation wi II be made at a convocati on in the sp r ing.
MGB is also in the process of es tabl i shing a speakers bu reau.
Trustees wi 11 be asked to seek oppo r tunities to speak before se r vi ce
clubs and organ izations rega rding higher education. A fact sheet is
