About CONDOR

The history of CONDOR

The idea of an institutional repository at Central Michigan University as a way to collect and preserve the scholarly output of the CMU community began in the spring of 2007. A campus-wide, cross-disciplinary committee was created and began the process of drafting policies and guidelines for the repository, working with the vendor to create a working web interface, and soliciting donations of content from the CMU faculty, staff, and students. On March 15, 2008, CONDOR officially registered its first acquisition.

The purpose of CONDOR

The purpose of CONDOR is to provide a permanent, safe, and accessible collection of the academic and intellectual output of the CMU community. By collecting these items in a single location, it is hoped that CONDOR will not only provide a cumulative record of the scholarly achievements of CMU faculty, staff, and students, but also provide the scholarly community outside of CMU with evidence of our accomplishments.

What does CONDOR collect?

The repository collects and stores educational, artistic and research-oriented works produced or sponsored by Central Michigan University faculty, staff, students, and academic departments.

For examples and additional information see the FAQ and Best Practices Guidelines.

Why should I deposit with CONDOR?

CONDOR provides access to research, both published and unpublished, as well as to instructional materials. The advantages of depositing materials with CONDOR are numerous:

  • Allows the sharing of your work with others
  • Discoverability, as CONDOR is indexed by Google and other Internet search engines
  • All your work will be accessible in a single location
  • You will always have a permanent link to your deposited work
  • Provides proof of scholarship
  • All works are stored in a secure and permanent environment
  • By contributing to CONDOR, you are enhancing CMU’s body of scholarly work and its reputation as an accomplished academic institution

Who manages CONDOR?

CONDOR is managed by an interdepartmental team representing a cross-section of the university community. The Repository Team is responsible for establishing policies and procedures and for developing and offering training on the use of the repository. The makeup of the team may vary from year to year. The University Libraries manages the software and is responsible for assigning authoritative tagging to repository objects.
